Scotch Eggs Recipe

Scotch eggs are a popular snack in the United Kingdom, consisting of a hard-boiled egg wrapped in sausage meat and fried until golden brown.

Ingredients

Time Needed

  • Prep Time: 20 minutes
  • Cook Time: 20 minutes
  • Total Time: 40 minutes

Instructions

  • Cover the eggs in a saucepan with water.
  • Bring to a boil, then reduce to a low heat for 5 minutes.
  • Remove the eggs from the water and place them under cold running water to cool.
  • Set aside the peel.
  • Divide the sausage into six equal portions and flatten each into a disc.
  • Place an egg in the center of each disc and completely wrap the sausage around the egg.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, black pepper, paprika, and cayenne pepper.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the remaining two eggs.
  • In a third bowl, combine the breadcrumbs.
  • Each sausage-wrapped egg should be rolled in seasoned flour, then dipped in beaten eggs, and finally coated in breadcrumbs.
  • In a deep fryer or large pot, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
  • Fry the eggs in batches for about 4-5 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Before serving, drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
